Untamed Balance
Title: Untamed Balance
Year: 2025
Material: Burl poplar, concrete
Dimensions: approx. 186 × variable × 33 cm
The Untamed Balance table is conceived as a sculptural object that deliberately dissolves the boundary between functional design and fine art. Five individually cast concrete bases support a solid burl poplar top with pronounced grain and an organically flowing silhouette. The surface has been sanded, polished, and oiled to highlight the wood’s natural structure while creating a calm, subtly matte finish.
Inspired by Japanese tea culture, the piece presents itself less as a utilitarian object and more as an aesthetic focal point— a place of stillness, contemplation, and balance. The interplay between wood and concrete symbolizes the dialogue between nature, craftsmanship, and artistic intent.
Untamed Balance exemplifies my exploration of material identity and function. The work does not seek practicality; instead, it pursues harmony between weight and lightness, structure and quietude—an expression of contemplative aesthetics and precise craftsmanship.
